For each of Tenet’s 50 hospitals, including Placentia-Linda Hospital, leadership and staff is asked to submit a nomination for one caregiver and one non-caregiver whose outstanding work and the highest levels of service go above and beyond their duties to provide extra support and assistance for our hospital operations.
Valerie Laktash started at Placentia-Linda Hospital in May, 2002 as the Facilities Coordinator and was promoted in 2005 to also spearhead Placentia-Linda Hospital’s Customer Service Excellence program (known as Target 100). Valerie’s duties as the Service Excellence leader include making sure our patients at Placentia-Linda Hospital are 100% satisfied with the service and care they received. This is monitored through an outside survey firm who randomly calls patients who have been discharged and asks them a series of questions on how their stay was.
Valerie rounds on patients daily to see how they are doing. It’s not uncommon for Valerie to go to a patient’s home and feed the pets they are concerned about after an unexpected stay or to escort a patient the three feet from the uncovered portion of the main entrance to their car in the rain because she doesn’t want them to get wet. She also cares about the staff and will come in on weekends and evenings to deliver pizza or treats to the staff. Valerie’s personal integrity and commitment to service excellence make her an essential part of the Placentia-Linda Hospital team.
Placentia-Linda Hospital’s Martha Mejia, Phlebotomist in the Laboratory, was also honored with a Caregiver Tenet Hero Award nomination and will be featured in the official hero souvenir program. To describe her, take 10 feet of dedication, compassion and enthusiasm and pack it in a 4-foot 7-inch dynamo and you have a picture of Martha. Martha makes every patient interaction a positive event and ensures they receive the “personal touch” that our hospital is known to provide.
Service and quality excellence is very important to the entire team at Placentia-Linda Hospital. In fact, we have an outside survey company who randomly surveys our patients on customer satisfaction. We’ve been conducting the surveys since 2000 and have been consistently ranked in the top 10 of our affiliated company, Tenet Healthcare.
