PLACENTIA, CA, MAY 11, 2011 — Sally Marquez, RN, BSN, PHN and DOU Clinical Coordinator at Placentia-Linda Hospital has been invited into the Sigma Theta Tau  International Honor Society  of Nursing . This is an “invitation only” membership based on her academic excellence.  The honor society is a global community of nurse leaders where members lead in using evidence based-knowledge, scholarship, service and learning to improve health care delivery worldwide.

Sally will be inducted on July 9th, 2011 during a special ceremony in San Diego, California.   Helen Lesser, RN and Director of DOU/ICU/OP will also attend in proud support of Sally.   “This is one of the highest achievements a nurse can receive and I’m very honored to be invited into such a prestigious organization,” states Sally Marquez.  “I am sharing this honor with several nurses who share the same vision of excellence and dedication to nursing academia, and the nursing profession.”

Sally started her early nursing career at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego (previously owned by Tenet Health Care) as a CNA in 1984 and as an LVN in Telemetry in 1987. She went to San Diego City College where she earned a degree in Biology and Nursing. Due to military reassignment of her spouse to Pearl Harbor, Sally moved to Hawaii to be with her family.  She then came back as a full time resident of San Diego in 1998. Sally went back to school in 2002 and completed her BSN and PHN with honors at the University of Phoenix. She is in the MSN program at the same university and will finish her master’s degree in August 2011. Besides the MSN program, Sally is also working on her Fellowship at the American College of Healthcare Executives.

She led the level II trauma center at USC where she worked with some world renowned trauma surgeons. She also worked at Garden Grove Hospital (previously- owned Tenet facility) in 2005 and transferred to Placentia-Linda Hospital in 2006 as a staff RN on DOU and eventually was promoted to Clinical Coordinator. Sally actively participates in controlling Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) readmissions as well as keeping the Core Measure initiatives maintain its strong performance. Her clinical goals are focused to improve patient satisfaction through high quality care in DOU.

Service and quality excellence is very important to the entire team at Placentia-Linda Hospital.  In fact, we have an outside survey company who randomly surveys our patients on customer satisfaction.  We’ve been conducting the surveys since 2000 and have been consistently ranked in the top 10 of our affiliated company, Tenet Healthcare.  This is in part due to the dedication and skills of our nursing staff, like Sally Marquez.

Placentia-Linda Hospital is an acute care hospital serving our communities needs by providing 24-hour emergency care; surgical services including orthopedic/joint replacement; general surgery; weight loss surgeries; spine services; as well as our G.I. Center; and Imaging Centers.
