EsophyX - Upper G.I.

What is EsophyXTM?

We are now performing the new Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication procedure, or TIF®, using the innovative EsophyX device for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).  The EsophyX procedure reconstructs the natural valve that stops acid from backing up into the esophagus.

  •  EsophyX is introduced into the body through the mouth.  Fixation sutures are delivered to the appropriate places with the guidance of an endoscope passed through the mouth.  These sutures reconstruct the acid-reflux barrier.
  • The procedure involves less pain and risk than traditional surgery.  It leaves no scar and most patients can get back to work and normal activities within a few days.  Patients have reported over 80% improvement in quality of life.

When EsophyX May Be Needed:

If you have heartburn twice a week or more, you may have acid reflux disease, also known as GERD.  Heartburn is the most common symptom, but you may also experience:

  • Regurgitation
  • Hoarseness or sore throat
  • Frequent swallowing
  • Asthma or asthma-like symptoms
  • Pain or discomfort in the chest
  • Reflux-related sleep disorders
  • Yellow fluid or stains on pillow after sleep
  • Excessive clearing of the throat
  • Persistent cough
  • Burning in the mouth or throat
  • Intolerance of certain foods
  • Bloating
  • Dental erosions or therapy-resistant gum disease or inflammation
