PLACENTIA, Calif. – August 25, 2010 – A group of Placentia-Linda Hospital employees gathered, packed and shipped 71 boxes of much needed items to our troops in Afghanistan as part of the Marine Corp Adopt-A-Platoon program yesterday. This initiative was spearheaded by Betty Robinson, Lab Director. Donations poured in over the last two weeks, including donations from our contracted vendors. Employees and volunteers came in on their days off and over the weekend to pack and ship the boxes, which included such items as snacks, toiletries, games and common necessities. We also received a donation of 800 lbs. of new linen.
The platoon we were assigned is “Charlie Company.” Charlie Company, 1st Medical Battalion USN, is a surgical company with the USMC who perform surgery up front for severely wounded Marines, sailors and soldiers. They also give care to Afghan civilians. The team works out of tents in smaller forward operating bases and move quite often. The company includes 83 Corpsmen deployed from California, including 46 females. We are very grateful for the donations from staff. We’d like to also say a special thank you to the Medical Staff of PL for donating $1,000.00, which was used to purchase even more items.
