Placentia-Linda Hospital Collected 2,702 Servings of Cereal

Through its “Healthy Over Hungry” Cereal Drive
Because Breakfast Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation

PLACENTIA, CA – July 15, 2016 – Placentia-Linda Hospital is pleased to announce that it collected 2,702 servings of cereal to provide area community children and adults struggling with hunger with a healthy breakfast during the summer through its “Healthy Over Hungry” Cereal Drive benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, a member of the Feeding America network. The drive ran June 3-10, 2016.

“I am so proud of all of our colleagues at Placentia-Linda Hospital for tackling childhood hunger through our “Healthy Over Hungry” Cereal Drive,” said Chuck Orlando, interim chief executive officer of Placentia-Linda Hospital. “Helping others is at the heart of what we do every day at our hospital. Because good nutrition is essential to good health, we wanted to make a difference and help lead the fight against hunger in Placentia and the local communities we serve.”

“We are so appreciative of Placentia-Linda Hospital and its parent company, Tenet Healthcare, for hosting the “Healthy Over Hungry” Cereal Drive and are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed,” said Nicole Suydam, CEO, of Second Harvest Food Bank.  “Their generous donation of 2,702 servings of cereal will help provide a healthy breakfast for so many who are struggling with hunger this summer.  We know that summer is a particularly tough time for many food-insecure families because children can no longer rely on the schools for nutritious meals putting an added burden on these families.  We are thrilled that so many will now be helped because of the hospital’s leadership in addressing this community health issue.”

When public school ends for the summer, so do the free and reduced-price lunches children receive in the school cafeteria.
