Placentia-Linda Hospital Celebrates 45th Anniversary with Sept. 27 Special EventOct 1, 2019
PLACENTIA, Calif. – Sept. 27, 2017 – Many local dignitaries, including State Sen. Josh Newman, John Schmidt, MD, the hospital’s only surviving founding physician, and Maxwell Litt, its first-ever patient, will participate in a Sept. 27 special event celebrating Placentia-Linda Hospital’s 45th anniversary. The event will start at 1 pm at the hospital, which is located at 1301 N. Rose Drive in Placentia.
In addition to Sen. Newman and Dr. Schmidt, honored guests will include representatives of Congressman Ed Royce, State Assemblyman Phillip Chen and Supervisor Shawn Nelson, as well as Placentia Mayor Tom Green. Litt, who was admitted to Placentia-Linda Hospital with pericarditis three days before its scheduled opening 45 years ago, will participate via a prerecorded video. Several staff members who have worked at the hospital since its inception will also join in the celebration.
Founded by a group of 19 community physicians to serve the area’s rapidly growing population, Placentia-Linda Hospital opened its doors on Sept. 27, 1972. Today, Placentia-Linda Hospital has a medical staff of 345 physicians and, with almost 600 employees, is one of the largest employers in the city of Placentia. It contributes nearly $800,000 in property and sales tax, spends nearly $40 million annually in salaries, wages, and benefits and provides more than $700,000 annually in charity care.
Its original mission – “To provide quality healthcare with a personal touch” – remains unchanged.
“We are honored to have grown to serve the healthcare needs of our community over the past 45 years,” said Christina Oh, CEO of Placentia-Linda Hospital. “In addition to our acute care hospital services, we also operate five urgent care centers, two outpatient imaging centers and an outpatient surgery center to help residents of the communities we serve receive care where and when it is most convenient for them. In collaboration with these affiliates, we served nearly 100,000 people in 2016.”
