Tests & Screenings

The most accurate diagnosis is one of the first steps in proper treatment for your hip. Placentia-Linda Hospial offers a wide range of tests and screenings. Common diagnostic tests and screenings that we may use are:

Bone Densitometry

Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens the bones and makes them more brittle and susceptible to fracture.  The Bone Densitometry machine at Rose Plaza uses low-energy X-rays to scan the lower back, hip or forearm to help diagnose osteoporosis.

Computed tomography (CT)

CT stands for computed tomography. A physician takes a CT scan of a patient to obtain more detailed, cross-sectional digital images of the body.  Our CT Scan is equipped with SureExposure Technology with multi-purpose functionality.

A physician performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate soft tissue injury and abnormalities in the hip. MRI provides greater sensitivity and specificity than conventional imaging techniques. Placentia-Linda Hospital offers “True Open High Field” MRI.  Your comfort is a key benefit with the openness of our MRI unit.  It is a “true open” MRI and provides a 270-degree unobstructed view. You won’t have to go into a “tube” anymore to get high resolution images. This feature will ease your mind and provide a more satisfying experience.

A myelogram is used to evaluate abnormalities of the spinal canal, including the spinal cord, nerve roots and other tissues.

Nuclear medicine bone scan

Using a nuclear medicine bone scan, physicians can see the effects of injury, disease or infection on the hipbones. A nuclear medicine bone scan also shows whether there has been any improvement or deterioration in a bone abnormality after treatment.

Surgeons use ultrasound images of the hip to provide clearer pictures of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bone and soft tissues surrounding the hip.

An X-ray machine emits electromagnetic waves (radiation) that go through the body so that a physician can see images of the internal makeup of the patient’s hip.
