What Is Diagnostic Imaging?

Diagnostic imaging, simply called imaging, allows doctors to diagnose your medical condition by looking at images and activities within the body using various equipment and techniques. Most of the imaging techniques are painless, but some may feel uncomfortable.

Imaging Services in Placentia

Our imaging centers in Placentia offers diagnostic testing which is an essential starting point in getting an accurate diagnosis. Providing quality care is our top priority. That is why we continue to offer advanced diagnostic imaging options such as the following:

2D and 3D Digital Mammography
Digital mammography uses X-rays to visualize abnormalities in the breast tissues. This type of mammography records the images electronically instead of traditional film. It is used to detect breast cancer as early as possible, which generally helps improve the effectiveness of treatment.

Open MRI: True Open High-Field 1.2 Tesla MRI
Our magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system provides high-quality images of the musculoskeletal system, neurological system, soft tissue organs within the body and the breast. Our “true open” MRI is ideal for claustrophobic patients with a capacity for up to 450 lbs.

CT Scan
Computed tomography (CT) scan combines X-rays and computer scans to create images of the body including the heart, head, knee, chest, abdomen, shoulders and spine. The result is a detailed picture that can show soft tissues, organs and bones.

Ultrasound
Uses sound waves to form images of the body’s interior.

Digital X-ray
Uses low-dose radiation to produce digital images of the skeletal system and vital organs inside the body.

Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
This is a breast imaging option that produces stereo images — images of the same area from different angles. This helps doctors determine the exact location for the biopsy, where a sample of breast tissue is then removed with a needle.

Bone Densitometry (including FRAX score)
Our Hologic Horizon™ DXA System is capable of not only assessing osteoporosis, but also includes a 10-year fracture risk assessment.

Prepare for Your Visit

At the Rose Plaza Imaging Center, we are focused on providing you with expert care combined with a healthy dose of attentiveness and support. Our teams at Placentia-Linda Hospital will guide you through the process, but here are some tips for a well-informed and prepared visit.

  • Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled screening.
  • Please tell your doctor your medical history, allergies and all medications (any prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications or herbal supplements) you take before an imaging exam.
  • Please tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if there is a possibility that you are pregnant.
  • Generally, you can eat or drink as you normally would. But there are some procedures that may require you to eat or drink more than normal or not at all.
  • Please remove your jewelry (e.g., earrings and necklaces) or any metal object (e.g., watch, dentures and hearing aids) that might interfere with the magnetic field.
  • Some procedures might require you to wear a hospital gown when you undergo the imaging procedure, but if possible, wear loose-fitting and comfortable clothing. It is also recommended to wear a two-piece clothing so you can disrobe from waist up.
  • If you are having a mammogram or a breast MRI, please avoid using deodorant, lotions or creams on your underarms. These might have metallic components and may affect your images.
  • Please call your insurance provider prior to your procedure to check if they require pre-authorization or a referral letter for your visit.

Once your imaging is complete, your doctor will advise you on the results, discuss further testing or procedures needed and discuss treatment options with you.

Patient Financial Resources in Imaging Centers

Your health does not have to wait. We understand that sometimes healthcare costs can burden a family’s budget and cause patients to put off procedures. If that’s your case, we have financial counselors located in the Admission Services Department. They are available to assist you in making financial arrangements, and to discuss any questions you may have regarding your account.

We accept most major insurances. You may call us for more information about the providers we partner with. For information regarding your covered services and benefits, we suggest you contact your insurance carrier. Any co-pay or deductible that your insurance plan requires you to pay is due at the time of services. We also accept all major credit cards, debit cards, cash, checks and money orders.
